Grok Bot Updates 05: Mac 0.79.2 ships while the official notes stay on 0.78.1

The Mac app has moved to 0.79.2, but the official changelog has not caught up. Early community reports point to a tidier interface and per-bot voice controls. That is useful for anyone running more than one assistant.

Grok Bot for Mac is now on version 0.79.2, dated 5 November 2026 on Homebrew. That follows a run of quiet patch builds with no official notes: 0.78.3 (2 November), 0.78.4 (3 November), 0.78.5 (4 November), then 0.79.2.

The official changelog at x.ai/changelog/bot still shows Latest v0.78.1 · 27 October 2026 (Shopping cards and subscription templates). We covered that release in Updates 03. Checked on the morning of 6 November 2026 (Melbourne time), nothing newer has been published there. Updates 04 covered the separate official phone-calls announcement from 5 November; that is not what this post is about.

So this post is based on a confirmed version number from Homebrew, plus what people on X have reported after installing 0.79.2. It is not an official feature list.

What community reports say about 0.79.2

Mike (@Mike_the_Elder) wrote that 0.79.2 brought "some nice UI changes that neaten it up", and that you can change a bot's voice from the details page on each bot. He also noted that the release notes are still stuck at 0.78.1 from October.

That matches a wider pattern on X: people keep seeing new builds land while the public changelog does not move.

Separately, Kyle (@kylekane) compared 0.79.2 with a previous build and found new "Try On" text, selfie prompts and blazer demos inside the app. He is clear that this is not a confirmed launch — clues in the build, not a live feature you can rely on. We are not treating virtual clothing try-on as available.

Why a tidier UI and per-bot voice matter at work

If you run more than one assistant — for example one for research, one for inbox work, one for a public brand — small UX details start to matter.

  • Per-bot voice. Setting voice on each bot's details page makes it easier to tell assistants apart when you are listening rather than reading. That sounds minor until you are juggling several bots through the day.
  • A neater interface. Less clutter in the chat and details pane makes it faster to find the controls you actually use: approvals, vault, routines and the details of each bot.

Neither change needs official fanfare to be useful. They are the sort of polish that helps an AI workforce feel manageable rather than noisy.

How to get started

  1. On a Mac, update Grok Bot (Homebrew users: `brew upgrade --cask grok-bot`) and confirm you are on 0.79.2.
  2. Open a bot's details page and check whether voice controls appear there, as community reports describe.
  3. Keep watching the official changelog for proper release notes. We will publish a fuller guide once those land.
