The latest official Grok Bot update, version 0.77.0 on 26 October (which also rolls in 0.76.0), has a clear theme: control. It gives you more say over what your bot can do without asking, which payment method it reaches for first, and how it asks you questions. There are also smaller changes worth knowing about, from importing your preferences to deleting a Page.
For a business owner, the useful question about an AI assistant isn't only what it can do. It's what it can do without checking with you first. That is the idea behind the way SI1 designs AI workforces: capable tools, with approval controls you can see and change. Updates like this one make that easier to set up.
This post is based on the official update notes, listed at the end. We haven't tested these features ourselves, so treat this as a plain-English guide to what the notes say, not a review. Grok Bot's Mac app is now on version 0.78.1, which has no published notes yet, so this post covers the official notes up to version 0.77.0. Some features need a recent app version, noted below.
Permissions and Auto-review (26 October)
Auto-review is the check that decides whether your bot can go ahead with an action or has to show you an approval card first. This update gives you a place to see and shape those rules.
- Settings now has a Permissions section. It lists your Auto-review rules under two headings, Always Ask and Allow without Asking, and each has its own Add Rule button. This needs Grok Bot 0.75.2 or later.
- Auto-review lets through more private actions that you can undo, without an approval card. It still asks when only your open tabs change.
- Background work you start in your own words no longer asks for Auto-review approval to start.
- Approval cards now stay open for 30 minutes instead of 10, in the app and in Slack.
- Rule cards in chat show each rule as a sentence, and name any older Allow rule that was removed to make room.
- Since 24 October (version 0.75.8), your bot can also offer to add, change or remove one of your Auto-review rules on a card that you confirm.
Everyday example
- You want your bot to handle routine jobs you can undo on its own, but to check with you before anything that sends or spends. In the Permissions section, you can see which actions sit under Always Ask and which under Allow without Asking, then add a rule to match how you like to work.
How to use it
- Open Settings > Permissions and read through the two lists first. Add a rule only for something you are comfortable with the bot doing on its own.
- Keep anything that sends, posts, buys or deletes under Always Ask until you are sure.
Vault payments (26 October)
Last time we covered Vault, the place where your bots keep cards, logins and contact details. This update adds to it.
- The Vault has a Payments tab, where you pick the payment method your bots use first. You still approve every purchase.
- Vault entries have a Hints field that tells your bots when to use each one.
- Saved addresses, phones and emails now appear together as Contact info, and one contact can hold several emails and phone numbers.
- Bots try your saved Vault logins and cards before a password manager or another way to pay.
- Address fields in forms and in the Vault suggest streets as you type.
- Bots can update a saved Vault entry's name, hint and card details for you.
Everyday example
- You keep two cards in Vault. Use the Payments tab to choose which one your bot tries first, and write a hint on each entry about what it is for, such as business purchases only.
Question cards that ask several things at once (26 October)
Bots can now ask several questions on one card, and the card steps you through them. If none of the choices fit, you can type Your own answer. For a task with a few decisions in it, such as booking something or setting up a report, that means one tidy card instead of a back-and-forth.
Import Memory (26 October)
Import Memory, in Settings, brings your preferences and context from another AI assistant into your primary bot. It needs Grok Bot 0.75.2 or later. If you are switching tools, it saves you from starting from scratch. Check what you bring across, since it will shape how your bot works with you.
Order Concierge and Deal Watcher templates (26 October)
These two bot templates track your orders, refunds and returns, and watch prices and coupons. They never buy without your OK. That is the same approach as the rest of this update: the bot does the watching, and you make the call.
Smaller changes worth knowing
- Tables in chat. Tables now have a copy button that copies them for Slack or as markdown, and wide tables open full screen with zoom.
- Pages. Page owners can delete a Page from the Library, which removes it for everyone it was shared with. Handy after our last post on sharing Pages.
- Gmail sign-out. When Gmail signs you out, for example after Google revokes access, your primary bot tells you in its chat and offers to reconnect.
- Look and language. There is a new typeface for text and code, including on Pages, and Português (Portugal) joins the app's languages.
- Teams. Team admins can now limit Bot sharing to admins, and choose whether members can publish Bot templates publicly, only to the team, or not at all.
How to get started: a quick checklist
- Update Grok Bot, then open Settings and look for the Permissions section.
- Read your Always Ask and Allow without Asking lists. Move nothing until you understand each rule.
- Keep sending, posting, buying and deleting under Always Ask.
- In Vault, open the Payments tab and choose the payment method your bots should use first.
- Add a short hint to each Vault entry so your bots know when to use it.
- If you use another AI assistant, try Import Memory, then check what came across.
- Look at your shared Pages and delete any you no longer need.
